Daily Rhythm FAQs

Basecamp is a private residence in Barrio Logan (92113) that has been licensed as a Family Home Child Care program and equipped with a Reggio-inspired classroom and urban outdoor playspace.
Phoenix House aligns with the most current research in child development and neuroscience in its belief that children need routine and predictability. While the places we go explore change regularly, basecamp remains the same -- providing familiarity and routine.
Moreover, Phoenix House strives to be a program accessible to working families. We recognize that fluctuating drop off points and mid-day pickups at remote trailheads is not feasible for most families and we do not want children to lose out on the opportunity to experience place based education because of these logistical constraints. Basecamp is a central drop off location that offers easy access to all of San Diego's major freeways. We strive to make our program further accessible by offering extended care. So if picking up your child at 1pm doesn't work they can spend their afternoon at Basecamp until as late as 4:30pm.

Our cohorts are intentionally small with an adult:child ratio of no more than 1:5 in the wild and 1:8 at basecamp.

A detailed list of our place based learning itinerary will be sent out to families via email on the first of each month. For the safety of our cohort, this list is never published online or made public. All of the destinations are within 25 miles of basecamp and include a mix of urban (Balboa Park, Mission Bay, Seaport Villiage) and rural (Mission Trails Regional Park, Lakeside River Park Conservancy, Sweetwater Regional Park).
